APD Reports First Homicide of the Year-Arrest Made

Alexandria, LA for release (1/15/26)

On Thursday, January 15, 2026, at approximately 8:50 am, the Alexandria Police Department responded to the 1100 block of Magnolia Street in reference to the discovery of a dead body.  The Alexandria Police Department arrested 33-year-old Areon Jones in connection with this homicide.  Jones is charged with one count of second-degree murder.  The identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin.  Both the victim and Jones were experiencing homelessness.

Chief Gremillion said, “This reflects the swift and coordinated response of our officers and investigators.  Within three hours of the initial call, a suspect was identified and taken into custody, which speaks to the dedication of our personnel and their commitment to public safety.”

This is currently an ongoing investigation.
