Chief of Police Chad Gremillion

The Police Chief is directly responsible for the organization and administration of the department, for law enforcement activities, for the supervision of all department personnel, for financial planning and budgeting of funds, for records-keeping, for public relations, and for care and maintenance of all department property and equipment. The Chief is also responsible for assuring that the proper training is provided for all employees. The Police Chief has the authority and responsibility to carry out the duties of the position independently and is accountable to the Mayor of the City of Alexandria.

About the Chief

Chad Gremillion began his law enforcement career at the Alexandria Police Department in 1995. While working for the Alexandria Police, Chief Gremillion worked as a patrol officer and was assigned to the traffic division.  In 1999, Chief Gremillion graduated from the Louisiana State Police Training Academy and began his career as a Louisiana State Trooper assigned to Troop E.  While employed with the Louisiana State Police, Chief Gremillion served in uniform patrol, criminal investigations, intelligence division, and the special victims unit.

During his time as a trooper, Chief Gremillion was awarded the Louisiana State Police “Trooper of the Year” and the recipient of a lifesaving award among other commendations. In 2023, Chief Gremillion retired from the Louisiana State Police and on April 5, 2023, Alexandria Mayor Jacques Roy appointed him as the Interim Chief of Police for the Alexandria Police Department. Chief Gremillion is a past board member of the Rapides Children’s Advocacy Center and Metanoia Manor for victims of human trafficking.

Chief Gremillion is married and has two children. He and his family attend Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church where he is the chair of the Pastoral Council.
