On Monday, July 31, 2023, at 07:56 PM the Alexandria Police and Fire Departments responded to a call at the Red River near the Alexandria Amphitheater about a swimmer in distress. Emergency rescue personnel searched the waterway for several hours but were unable to locate the swimmer. Rescue efforts were temporarily suspended late Monday night due to visibility and resumed at daylight on Tuesday morning.
On Tuesday, August 1, 2023, the Alexandria Fire Department Dive Team searched the river throughout the day. The rescue/recovery efforts were amplified by assistance from the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office and the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office who provided equipment and personnel all day and into the night on Tuesday.
On Wednesday, August 2, 2023, at 08:00 AM the Alexandria Fire Department recovered the victim’s body approximately two miles downriver from the location of the initial call.
