As New Year’s approaches, we want to remind everyone of a few safety matters:
1. Shooting fireworks is illegal inside the city, and bothers many of your neighbors and their pets. Please be courteous and do not shoot fireworks in Alexandria. We won’t catch everyone, but we might catch you, and you risk confiscation and hefty fines. Illegal use of fireworks can lead to unintended fires.
2. Firing guns into the air in celebration is illegal and dangerous (what goes up must come down). NEVER discharge a firearm to celebrate any holiday – you will be subject to arrest.
3. Don’t drink and drive. Plan ahead with a designated driver or make arrangements to stay with someone if you’re driving. You not only risk being arrested when you drive drunk, you’re risking your life and the lives of everyone else on the road.
Let’s work together to keep our community safe. If you witness the illegal use of fireworks or the illegal discharge of firearms, please report it to the Alexandria Police Department. Stay safe, Alexandria!
