To keep our communities safer by assisting law enforcement to be able to quickly access video in the event of a crime to help apprehend criminals and solve crimes faster. Camera registration allows law enforcement to quickly ascertain who has cameras in an area and has volunteered to be contacted.
Anyone whose residence or business is located within the City of Alexandria is welcome and encouraged to register the location of their private cameras and aid in criminal investigations.
The contact information you provide may be accessed by the Alexandria Police Department when investigating a crime near where your camera is located. Law enforcement may contact you to review footage and possibly request a copy of any video captured by your system.
You will only be contacted if it is believed your system could have a view of a criminal act and would help with an investigation.
Only police personnel will have access to your information. The Alexandria Police Department will keep the information provided by the registrant confidential and not disclose any information.
No one would ever be held liable for lack of available footage.
No, you will be contacted by police personnel and asked to provide video if there is an incident in your area and your camera may have useful footage. At no time will the Alexandria Police Department have direct or remote access to your cameras or camera system.
There is no cost to you. This camera registration and mapping program is available to all Alexandria residents and businesses at no cost.
