Alexandria Police Responds to School Threat

On Wednesday, October 2, 2024, at approximately 12:55 PM the Alexandria Police Department (APD) was made aware of a threat of violence directed at Arthur F. Smith Middle Magnet School earlier today. Upon receiving the information, APD detectives quickly began collaborating with the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office, Louisiana State Police, and the Rapides Parish School Board to investigate the situation.

After a thorough investigation, APD has determined that there is no current threat to any students or staff members at Arthur Smith Middle School. As part of the investigation, a juvenile suspect has been taken into custody.

APD, along with our partners, takes all threats seriously and will continue to prioritize the safety and well-being of our schools and community. We extend our appreciation to the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office, Louisiana State Police, and the Rapides Parish School Board for their cooperation and swift action.

Parents, students, and staff are encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to authorities. The Alexandria Police Department remains committed to ensuring the safety of our educational institutions and will provide any further updates as necessary.
