Alexandria Police Officer Injured by a Vehicle During Disturbance Call

On Monday, September 30, 2024, the Alexandria Police Department (APD) reports that an officer was struck by a vehicle while responding to a disturbance in the 60 block of Chester Street last night. The incident occurred at approximately 10:20 PM.

The officer, whose name is being withheld at this time, was conducting duties related to the disturbance call when a vehicle, driven by Jerry Weekly Jr., struck the officer. Weekly was arrested at the scene for Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) First Offense, Reckless Operation, and Vehicular Negligent Injury.

The officer was immediately transported to a local hospital and is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The Alexandria Police Department is thankful that the officer is expected to recover and remains committed to providing full support during their recovery.

The Alexandria Police Department takes this incident seriously and reminds the public of the dangers and consequences of driving under the influence. We will continue our efforts to ensure the safety of both our officers and the community.
