Vehicle Hits Pole, Driver Charged with 3rd DWI

On February 18, at around 12:45 am, APD officers responded to a report of a vehicle crash in the 700 block of Twin Bridges Road, near Coty Drive. Officers arrived and found that a single vehicle had crashed, leaving the roadway and colliding with a light pole. Officers contacted the driver, who appeared to be impaired by some type of intoxicant, and who fell asleep numerous times while officers were trying to talk to him.

Hit & Run Driver Also Charged with Drugs, Gun

On February 17, around 6:30 pm, APD officers responded to a report of a hit and run in the 3100 block of MacArthur Drive. Officers took the report and began looking for the suspect vehicle, described as a white Chevrolet SUV. Shortly after the report, officers saw a matching vehicle nearby, at MacArthur Drive and Sterkx Road, with damage that matched the description provided by witnesses. Officers pursued the suspect vehicle and stopped the driver in the 4900 block of Joseph Street.

Burglar Caught Breaking Into Car Downtown

On February 17, around 10:00 pm, and APD officer working downtown was alerted to a disturbance in a parking lot. The officer contacted the parties involved and quelled the disturbance, and was informed that one of the parties had his car burglarized. The officer then spoke to the second person, and as he stood up, the officers saw an item fall to the ground. This item was later identified as stolen property from the victim's vehicle. The suspect was placed under arrest and, upon searching him, the officer located more stolen property from the vehicle as well as drug paraphernalia.

The Dangers of Fentanyl and Other Adulterants

It has been several months since our department has addressed the ongoing problem of heroin and synthetic opioids in our community. In March of 2016, APD investigated the death of a young man who had taken fentanyl-laced heroin. He quickly lost consciousness and emergency personnel responded, but were not able to revive him. In February of 2017, a young woman took what she thought was heroin—but which had been laced with fentanyl—and the same fate befell her.

Suspect Arrested with Shotgun, Drugs in School Zone

On February 7, APD officers responded to the area of Rosalie Street and Louis Street to a report of a man walking down the street carrying a shotgun. Officers responded to the area and located the subject nearby, at the corner of Lynda Lee and Emily Ann Streets. When the man saw officers approaching, he went behind a nearby residence and attempted to hide the shotgun behind the house. Officers contacted him and located the shotgun.

Missing Juvenile

Please be on the lookout for Hailey Meadows. Hailey is 14 years old, approximately 6' tall, with shoulder-length pink and purple hair. She was last seen leaving the Alexandria Mall and she has been in contact via Facebook but her whereabouts are unknown. Robbery Suspect Arrested

On February 5, shortly before 3:00 pm, APD officers responded to a business in the 5200 block of Jackson Street to a report of a robbery. Officers arrived and contacted the victim, who said that a man had walked into the business and asked for money. The victim told the man no, at which point the man drew a knife and threatened the victim, demanding money. The victim was able to stay away from the man and call the police, at which point the man fled the scene on foot.
